Basic Page

To add content to a website, you will use a Basic Page. This is where you can add written copy, pictures, and tables. All SOV websites are comprised of Basic Pages.

Please Note: You must be logged in to the State of Vermont website that you are editing to follow the instructions below.

Create a Basic Page

  1. Content

Select 'Content' on the top navigation

  2. +Add Content

    Select '+Add Content'.

  3. Basic Page

    Select the 'Basic Page' option.

  4. Title

Enter the 'Title' that will appear at the top of the page and in search results and will used to generate the URL. By example, a title of 'Example Site Page' would have a URL that ends with '/example-site-page'.

  5. Body

Enter the content of your page in the 'Body' field.

  6. Optional: Tags

Assign 'Tags' to your document. These help users find related items across the site. Tags are tied to pages, articles, documents, and more.

  7. Optional: Accordion Category

Specify if there will be an 'Accordion Category' on the page. See the Accordion feature for more information.

  8. Optional: Menu Link

In the 'Menu settings', check the 'Menu Link' box to have the page listed in the navigation menu.

  9. Optional: Menu Link Title

Once 'Provide a menu link' is selected, the 'Menu link title' will appear. Enter the page name as you would like it to appear in the navigation menu.

  10. Optional: Description

Use the 'Description' field to supply additional context for the menu link. A description is not required if you have provided a descriptive menu link title.

  11. Optional: Parent Link

Use the 'Parent Link' to specify where the link will appear in the menu.

  12. Optional: Weight

Use the 'Weight' to specify where the link appears amongst the other links in the menu. This can be modified on the menu page. Providing this information here rather than manually adding a link in the menu has the added benefit of generating a layered URL. For example, if you set the event to be under the 'This is a test' page with a url of '/this-is-a-test', and your event name is 'example event', your event will automatically generate a URL of '/this-is-a-test/example-event'.

  13. Optional: Generate Automatic URL Alias

Once 'Generate automatic URL alias' is deselected, the page URL can be entered manually. If you edit a page with a generated URL, a redirect will automatically be created from the old URL to the new one, so you don’t need to worry about links in your content, user bookmarks, or external links to the page.

  14. Save

    Select 'Save'.

  15. Content

Select 'Content' on the top navigation.

  16. Locate Page

Locate the 'Basic Page' you created.

  17. View

Click on the page title to view the page. Confirm that the 'Basic page' appears as you intended.
