Events

The Events content type is helpful for entities to promote public gatherings and office closures. Additionally, all State of Vermont websites come with the Full Events Calendar feature. This feature allows site visitors to view all the Events created as an aggregated list or a monthly layout.

Please Note: You must be logged in to the State of Vermont website that you are editing to follow the instructions below.

Create an Event

  1. Content

Select 'Content' on the top navigation.

  2. +Add Content

    Select '+Add Content'.

  3. Event

    Select the 'Event' option.

  4. Title

Enter the 'Title' that will appear at the top of the event page and in search results. This will also be used to generate the URL. By example, a title of 'Example Event' would have a URL that ends with '/example-event'.

  5. Body

Enter the event description in the 'Body' field.

  6. Optional: Type

Specify the event 'Type'. By default, the options are Seminar and Workshop. To add more options, follow the Instructions to Add a New Event Type.

  7. Optional: Location

Specify the 'Location' for the event. To add more options, follow the instructions to Add a New Event Location.

  8. Optional: Event Date

Specify the 'Event Date' and time. NEED TO ADD DETAILS ONCE I HEAR BACK FROM TYLER.

  9. Optional: Menu Link

In the 'Menu settings', check the 'Menu Link' box to have the event listed in the navigation menu.

  10. Optional: Menu Link Title

Once 'Provide a menu link' is selected, the 'Menu link title' will appear. Enter the page name as you would like it to appear in the navigation menu.

  11. Optional: Description

Use the 'Description' field to supply additional context for the menu link. A description is not required if you have provided a descriptive menu link title.

  12. Optional: Parent Link

Use the 'Parent Link' to specify where the link will appear in the menu.

  13. Optional: Weight

Use the 'Weight' to specify where the link appears amongst the other links in the menu. This can be modified on the menu page. Providing this information here rather than manually adding a link in the menu has the added benefit of generating a layered URL. For example, if you set the event to be under the 'This is a test' page with a url of '/this-is-a-test', and your event name is 'example event', your event will automatically generate a URL of '/this-is-a-test/example-event'.

  14. Optional: URL Alias

Once 'URL Alias' is deselected, the event URL can be entered manually. If you edit an event with a generated URL, a redirect will automatically be created from the old URL to the new one, so you don’t need to worry about links in your content, user bookmarks, or external links to the page.
